Food Urbanism Is Published!

The cover design of the book is meant to invoke geospatial and typological urban relationships.

After many years of research, writing, and editing, it is a joy to share Food Urbanism with you. The book is authored by Craig Verzone and Cristina Woods, whose design practice, Verzone Woods Architectes, has a strong grounding in incorporating productive landscapes at all scales of work. Dani worked at the practice in 2013, and maintained a collaborative relationship with the firm through the publication of this book.

The publication includes a chapter written by Dani covering research she performed while at Verzone Woods. She presented her study of the Bernex Park Competition Entries at conferences in the United States and abroad. Verzone Woods was the winner of this International Competition and the park is currently in construction.

Dani studied the seven highest ranked competition submissions to the Bernex Urban-Agro Park International Competition. Through the proposed plans and judges comments, she extracted “lessons learned” for uniting productive agriculture, commercial activity, recreation, and residential activity.

Dani studied the relationships between site, user, production, and motivational typologies produced in the research. The Food Urbanism Website, http://www.foodurbanism.org/, allows users to sort via these different categories in order to find precedent projects to model.

Thanks to Craig Verzone and Cristina Woods for their mentorship and support through all these years. Congratulations on the publication of this incredible work of design research.
